A crochet tampon in natural unbleached cotton.
These washable, reusable menstrual tampons are made out of pure cotton and are approx 5cm long and 2cm wide. They are soft & squishy, comfortable to insert and highly absorbent. Tampons should be changed 3-4 hourly in general (it is not recommended that they are left in any longer than that). From looking at them, I would say that they are medium absorbency, but we are awaiting feedback from our team of testers. These menstrual tampons are hand-made in Sweden, where they are proving very popular.
The tampons come with 2 strings. When folded ready for use, the shorter string is only just visible. After being removed, pull on the shorter string to unfold before washing, to ensure thorough cleaning. Once washed & dried, push back inside to fold up again ready for use.
Washing instructions -
Rinse out in cold water initially, then soak in cold water until washing. Hand or machine wash on a hot cycle, with a natural detergent. Line dry or tumble dryable on hot. Do not use softeners or bleach. Every now & again (& for those who are concerned about cleanliness), you can rinse in tea tree oil before washing or place in boiling water for a minute or so before washing.
Pure cotton yarn will not leave any residue behind when removed. One of my customers emailed this, which she's seen inEMagazine-The Enviornmental Magazine (2004) “Some college courses on women’s health conduct a simple class demonstration: Place a new high street tampon in a glass of water. After it absorbs water, remove it, and watch all the remaining fibres floating in the water. These fibres remain inside a woman’s uterus.”
